We’re lucky to live in such a great state. The state of South Carolina has it all – from mountains to the beaches and everywhere between, South Carolina is a little piece of heaven on earth. Tomlinson’s and ShopTomlinsons.com is proud to be based in South Carolina (Florence, SC to be exact).

Christmas is my favorite time of year – for the obvious reason, but for many other reasons also. I love the weather that we normally have this time of year. I love getting together with family members that I don’t get to see often enough. And I love seeing old friends and catching up with them.
It’s so much fun going to work during Christmas because I never know what it’s going to bring. We’re extremely busy, and that makes it fun. One of my favorite things is that I get to see so many people who I don’t get to see throughout the year. It happens every day, and I never know who I’m going to run into. Just in the past week, I’ve seen and been able to catch up with more classmates, teachers, and other friends than I can count.
And it’s not just me either – with my job I’m able to see lots of other old friends “catching up” also. They always seem to do it right in the middle of the busiest aisle, but that’s OK – it’s just one of the things we have to get used to at this time of year. It seems like every day I hear someone remark “well I haven’t seen you in years” and that just makes me smile.
That’s one of the nice things about shopping locally. Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m in charge of the website at Tomlinson’s, so I am glad that people do shop online. But there are some things that can never be replaced. And I don’t think that you’ll ever run into your high school friend on amazon.com.
It’s nice to know that we play a small part in bringing people together for Christmas – because after the birth of Christ, isn’t that one of the most important parts of Christmas anyways?

As soon as I saw this, I knew that I had to have some. I don’t have any children yet (one’s on the way), but I immediately bought one tube each for my niece and my two nephews. This is just a good idea and it is a great way to get kids involved with Christmas and make them want to go to bed on Christmas Eve. I know that when I was younger (who am I kidding, I still have trouble) it was so hard for me to go to sleep on Christmas Eve beacuase I was so excited about what the next day would bring. I’m very excited about our new location in North Myrtle Beach. Our current store in North Myrtle Beach is in the Surfwood Plaza shopping area and we’ll still be in there at least through the end of the year. But we are building a new location, right up the road that we’ll be moving into soon.
Our new location is about half a mile or so to the north of our current location and on the opposite side of the road. Here’s what it looked like just after the initial clearing of the land:
This picture was taken in October 2007 when they were just finishing the clearing of the land. The next picture shows the land while it was being graded, and then when the slab was poured:
The next step was for the building to start going up:

These are the latest pictures that I have – but they were taken over a month ago. As it stands right now, it is essientially complete with a few minor details still to be finished: parking lot marking, the signs, etc…I’m going to be down at the beach this weekend and I will be going by and will try to grab some more pictures.
This is going to be an awesome store. I’ll update the blog once I know an official opening date. We’re thinking sometime in early January though – we’ve got to get through the Christmas rush first.
If you’ve only been to our Florence store then you definitely need to check out our beach stores the next time you’re there. Each of our stores has their own personality – and both of the beach stores (Surfside and North Myrtle Beach) are tons of fun. They carry much of the same merchandise that we do in Florence, but they also have their own style that just doesn’t seem to work with our customers. Check them out the next time you’re at the beach – you won’t regret it.
